Deadbolts

The most secure type of lock you can place on your home or business door is a dead bolt lock. Unlike the angled latch most traditional doorknob locks have; which can be pushed open with as little effort as shoving a credit card into the jam, deadbolt locks use a heavier bar of metal as a latch and are difficult or impossible to force open with a shim forced into the crack of the door. While the lightweight traditional latch might be acceptable on interior doors like bedrooms and bath, for your external doors you need a secure tamperproof deadbolt latch.

The Schlage Electronic Keyless Deadbolt combines increased security with practical, easy to use features. Rather than using keys or electronic "swipe" cards, the Schlage Keyless Deadbolt lock uses a numbered data input pad to set your personal pass codes. It comes preprogrammed with two user codes ready to go and has the capacity to allow up to nineteen individual users. The Schlage Deadbolt Lock installation is very simple and can be switched to replace most existing locks with nothing more than a screwdriver and a half-hour's time. You need no extra connections as the Schlage Deadbolt programs directly through the keypad. For night entry, you are provided with an on demand blue LED keyboard illumination light. You can reverse the levers for ease of use either right or left handed and the Schlage Electronic Keyless Deadbolt has an emergency exit feature so you do not need to worry about being trapped. Coming packaged with a 9-volt battery, the Schlage Deadbolt kit is ready to go right out of the box.

Other power deadbolt lock options include surface mounted, battery powered deadbolt locks with built in numeric push button coding and traditional key backup for emergencies or loss of battery power. While these types of deadbolt locks can be obtained in various colors and finishes, they are usually standardized in the bronze deadbolt lock motif as the price for the simplest ones start at over one hundred dollars.

One of the latest high tech security items for your home or office is the Proximity Reader and Cards you can install on individual doors. These types of deadbolt locks use
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) control to access entry. You can install the card reader inside the wall to make it tamper proof in potentially high risk areas. Then using either a key ring fob or plastic ID card, the internal reader can identify its code from up to two feet away. Whether you get one with a keypad programmer or hook it up to your PC, the advantages in a large business include the ability to reprogram your existing RFID's and reuse them for new employees.

Keyless deadbolt locks are not just limited to your doors. They have been modified for use is such applications as wall and free standing safes and lock boxes, windows and even briefcases and luggage. Don't take chances with your security, bolt it!
